In 1986 a college student named Tony Barthel decided to make a little bit of money "on the side" and asked his wife what he should call his DJ company. She said, "Sounds Like FUN!"

Since those days, the rather enthusiastic and unconventional Barthel has operated Sounds Like FUN! as a company that celebrates the unique individuality that is each of the people who chose to celebrate with us.

We mourn the loss of one of the most professional and wonderful DJs and individuals we have had the privilege of knowing. Our company's manager and inspiration, Allen Layton, was killed in a plane crash on February 26, 2011.

For those who had the privilege of knowing this wonderful individual or, even better, having had the opportunity to work with him, you realize what a loss it is that he isn't around any longer. We miss you, Allen, and use the memory of the excellence you constantly strove for as an inspiration in everything we do as individuals and as a company.

1. Select a Professional/ DJ: Unfortunately there are for too many DJs who represent themselves as professional DJs who don't listen to you. When you meet the DJ do they do all the talking, or do they take the time to listen to what you want? An old adage says that we have two ears and one mouth - use them proportionally. Ultimately this is going to be your celebration so a great DJ will be a team member in helping you successfully fulfill the vision of your incredible celebration.

2. Reputation, Reviews & Response: Make sure the DJ/Company has a good reputation. Any good DJ/Company will have written testimony or reviews online from previous clients raving about the service. Poor reviews or even a lack of is not a good sign. Finally observe their response time in returning calls, replying to emails or mailing correspondence. If their response time is not almost immediate, then your wedding is not a priority for them and you should look elsewhere

3. Meet your DJ before you choose him: You should not select a DJ until after you have interviewed him in person. Your DJ will be handling one of the most important days of your life. Remember your wedding celebration is about your individual style, taste, customs and vision. Whoever you choose to be your representative should take the time to learn what is important to you and then be there in person to fulfill that understanding.
